Appointment

Had my obstetrician appointment today. It was fairly brief, she listened to the baby’s heartbeat (I could hear it too!) and measured my stomach.

We’re waiting to find out what Alex’s blood type is so that we know whether I need to have anti-D injections or not. If he’s a Rh+, then I’ll need them since I’m RH-.  I also found out from my blood test that I don’t have aids, nor any other STD. That’s quite reassuring to know, lol.

My next scan I’m supposed to have between 19-20 weeks pregnant, but I’ll be flying out to NL when I’m 18.5 weeks, so at the moment I’m waiting to find out if I can have the scan earlier. My obstetrician needs to ring the ultrasound clinic and speak to the manager there, cuz the initial response was “no”. My obstetrician (who shares the same name and birthday as me!) assures me that it won’t be any problem.

Spoke to her about my intention to travel overseas, and she’s given me the name of a safe anti-nausea medication that I can take while I’m flying, so I’m happy about that.

All in all it was a fairly brief, but reassuring appointment.

How often will you need the anti-D injections? If you do that is…

And with the 19 week scan I think I read somewhere it can be done between 18-20 weeks… But my brain isn’t what it used to be so I’m completely unreliable at the moment!

I had my 20 week scan done at 19 weeks, and then again at 21 weeks cos baby was in a bad position. I am sure you will be able to have it done when you get back.

Before that they may not be able to see enough.

Are you still getting nauseous? Should be coming to an end soon and you shouldnt need any medication. Wasnt nice flying to Jamaica when I was 8 weeks pregnant. Theres always lots of sick bags lol

I don’t know how many anti-D injections I need. I heard it was 3, but then someone else told me they only had one.

With the scan they don’t usually do it as early as 18 weeks, but I’ll just be a few days over 18 weeks, and cuz I’m fairly slim they think they might be able to see what they need. If not, then they’ll just do another scan when I get back. If there’s any major probs though they’d rather find out what they can earlier.

Red I didn’t really get any morning sickness. But I get seriously bad air sickness, so I don’t dare fly without anti-nausea. Some people have suggested that maybe I won’t get sick while I’m pregnant, cuz hormones make things all different, but I don’t wanna test it out when I’m 30,000 feet up in the air!

I’ve actually been sick enough once that they accelerated the flight, organised priority landing and had paramedics see me on landing. I thought that was overkill, but it gives the general idea of why I don’t dare fly without anti-nausea!
